DEFENSE, AVERTIVE POWERS/YEW TREE

Here are some of the meanings associated with Eihwaz:  Survival, Strength, Reliability, Dependability, Trustworthiness, Enlightenment, Endurance, Defense, Protection, Secret or Sacred Knowledge.

As we are tested in life, we find the power to side step blockages and defeat. At the same time, we develop in ourselves an aversion to the conduct that creates stress within our lives. If there appears to be an obstacle in your path, consider that even a delay can prove beneficial and possibly aid in the obstacle disappearing without the need for action. Do not be overly eager to press forward, for this is not a time nor situation in which you can make your influence felt. Patience is the way that is being brought forward or shown for you at this time, nothing hectic, no acting needy, or craving or thirsting after a desired outcome. This Rune speaks much about the difficulties that can arise or develop when trying to push forward too hard for a particular outcome, if something doesn’t just fit or flow properly in its own natural due course. It speaks of a time of waiting--for a spring to fill up with water, and for fruit to ripen on the vine or tree.

It may be difficult, but perseverance and foresight are called for here. The ability to foresee consequences before you act, is very crucial for you and also in maintaining your own comfort zone and well being. This Rune is speaking of you averting anticipated difficulties through the right or appropriate action. This Rune also speaks about,,,that we are all doers, but we are deciders as well. You must strive to be selective when making decisions for yourself, in order to choose the correct path for you, and even give yourself more thought and consideration first with regard to the actions that you take.

A major and necessary life change may be about to take place. This change may seem full of uncertainty when it is first introduced, but it will become clear very quickly that such change is necessary.

A significant confrontation with one's inner fears and innermost insecurities may be at hand. While 'change' is a constant process, the appearance of Eihwaz indicates an increase in the speed and intensity of change.

Change comes in many forms such as Mental, Spiritual and Physical. It is important to keep your focus clear throughout the process. Some change should be accepted, as it is necessary and what appears to be required for your own self understanding and happiness.. Other change may require a steadfast resolve and hardiness -- like the always green yew tree. Through the trials of 'change' comes growth and spiritual expansion. Resolve, flexibility and a focus on the importance of change, will see you through the most difficult tasks and trials of life.

Eihwaz may also reference the need to address a problem well in advance, before it becomes serious or could potentially get out of control. It reminds us that new beginnings and fresh starts can only come after some aspect of our old way of life has died off. It encourages us to embrace change and make the best use of the opportunities it offers.

By carefully weighing your actions first before you proceed in certain areas of your life, and having the willingness to accept some of the changes that might not be easy at first, will be a pathway to much progress for you.


ALGIZ

The second Rune is ALGIZ and is pronounced "Awl_gh_eeze", which is the 15th Rune.

PROTECTION/SEDGE OR RUSHES/THE ELK

Keeping control of your emotions are important for you, so that your life will remain balanced and on track. Your life appears to be going through a transition at this time, along with shifts in your life’s course and accelerated self-change as well. It is very important not to collapse yourself into your emotions right now with both the highs as well as the lows. New opportunities and challenges are typical with this particular Rune.  Just be mindful of the unwanted influences that could potentially come along. Know that you are protected. It is a powerful Rune of protection and, spiritually, it symbolizes reaching up to the divine.

Also, remain mindful that timely correct action and conduct are one of your own true protectors. If you find yourself feeling pain, observe the pain, and try to work your way though it. Do not try to pull down the veil and escape from life by denying what is happening. You will progress, knowing that is your protection.

Algiz also represents success through endeavor in a search, quest, or other enterprises. Like the fast-growing pine tree, schemes will develop quickly. Like sharp sedge, you are protected from attack. Alertness and awareness will be your guide. By working to develop wisdom, vision, and clarity of mind, it will truly aid your cause, and help you in so many areas of your life.

The things that you have worked so hard for are coming to fruition. New relationships will enrich your life and positive influences are shaping every aspect of your existence.

Even in the heat of battle you are protected, wisdom and vision are your allies.

LAGUZ

The third Rune is LAGUZ and is pronounced "Lah-gooze", which is the 21st Rune.

FLOW/WATER/THAT WHICH CONDUCTS

This Rune represents: Water, Sea, Ocean, River or Lake, Cleansing  Tide. Associations with water in all its forms. Cleansing action. It can also mean: Emotion, Love, & Dreaming.

Laguz is the water rune. It symbolized all forms of water: rivers, springs, oceans and lakes. The ebb & flow and all its cleansing properties are represented by Laguz. Laguz also represents "emotional cleansing".

A time to overcome the fears that hold you back. You must not let things drag you under. Step back and release stress, be prepared to relinquish things for the good of your health. Emotional balance comes from harmony with creation around you. Just for example, natural foods lead to natural flow, whereas, unnatural foods lead to disharmony and stagnation.

Laguz sometimes contains elements of fluidity, changeability, and a lack of emotional control.

Unseen powers are active here in a very positive way. Powers that nourish, shape and connect. This Rune is about water, fluidity, the ebb and flow of emotions, careers and relationships. Laguz encourages you to immerse yourself in the experience of living without having to evaluate or understand. It speaks to the importance of satisfaction with regard to emotional needs, or how emotions are dealt with.

This Rune strongly signals a time for cleansing, for revaluing, reorganizing, and realigning. This is called the Rune of "deep knowing", and it may call you to study spiritual matters in preparation for self-transformation. Success now lies in contacting your intuitive wisdom and attuning to your own rhythms. It is important that instincts play a part in your decision process.

The sea is always fluid and moving, and so it should be with your life. Embrace change itself, for it is the only true constant thing in life.

Rose, the Runes never cease to amaze me. Every single Rune is speaking about some of the changes that are developing within your life presently, as well as a self transformation which appears to be currently in the process for you or has just begun. What amazes me the most, is that each Rune either represented or spoke with regard to your emotions and/or an emotional cleansing. It seemed to keep reinforcing, that you need to try to eliminate stress in your own life by stepping up to the plate and dealing with your emotions head on, and not just simply trying to pull the covers over your head in order to eliminate dealing with it like so many people do. It also speaks strongly of taking great care to weigh your decisions before you take action in certain particular situations. Weigh your options carefully, so that you will make the wisest decisions possible for your own life, which will have positive outcomes for you in the area of romance and in every aspect of your life, which will also ensure that you are not left with the feeling that you are living in regret for some action that you may have taken or some words you may have spoken. In many ways this is saying, do not leap without looking or before making well thought out or well planned decisions first, primarily where your emotional well being is concerned. Do not allow yourself to become so consumed or withdrawn if you are experiencing pain from a romantic relationship or some other type of difficulty that you may be encountering, or for whatever reason. Allow yourself to be transformed and cleansed from all negative emotions that may be dragging you down. Allow yourself to be rejuvenated and cleansed just like the ebb and constant flow of the water that washes all things away in order to make way for the new. You may experience some necessary positive life changes, but if you learn how to balance the control of your actions beforehand, and also learn to accept the healthy and necessary self changes you are slowly experiencing, and really concentrate on your emotional well being, you will feel so much more happiness within your life.

Just a bit more clarity with regard to the romance area.  Rose, the Runes strongly suggest, that if you would slowdown a bit, practice just a tad of restraint ahead of time before making any snap decisions, especially in the area of romantic involvement, make sure to choose wisely and seek out a partner that is very compatible to your personality, then it will all work out beautifully for you. It also suggests that you should not just simply hurl yourself full force into a relationship, feet first, without any emotional protection or restraint in place first, unless, your partner has earned that right and has indicated strongly that he is in unison with you as well in the romantic area, or, like you, mutually seeks to form a strong romantic partnership or bond as well.. When you jump right in and 'throw caution to the wind', it can open a person up to potentially hurt emotional feelings, if you don’t take the time and care to find out first, if, feelings are equally the same between you and the other party.  I sincerely feel that either someone who has already entered your life, or a "new person" is in the making soon since the Algiz Rune has presented itself.  Again, just try to relax, take your time, you have a lot of life ahead of you, make careful intelligent decisions for yourself, and when that wonderful man comes walking through your door, it will all flow beautifully and all will be well with the world once again.

You are protected, and new doors will be opening up for you very soon which will bring much joy. You will soon be coming out of a long period of some sort of dissatisfaction or emotional discontent. No doubt, you will be happy again very soon, Rose, and the sun will be shining for you brightly once again.
