Date Posted：01/29/2011 5:14 PMCopy HTML Mikao Usui developed the Reiki Universal Healing Energy system after years of study of a great variety of subjects.  He received the ability to heal with Reiki during a spiritual initiation after long fasting and meditation on one of Japan's many sacred mountains Reiki - What Is It? Reiki is a complete system of Natural Healing and Growth that can be learnt by anyone.  Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy.  Rei - means Universal Life and Ki - means Energy.  Everything that is alive contains Ki and radiates it, but the person who has received attunements or initiation has their body's energy channels opened up in a way that connects them to the Universe's limitless source of Ki.  The person now has unlimited access to the life force energy for their own healing and is also a channel for transmitting this energy to others.  Reiki is not something that we are given - it is a re-awakening of something we already have. Benefits of Reiki Reiki is healing energy in its truest sense.  When the Reiki practitioner channels this life energy through their hands to the recipient, it activates the body's natural ability to heal itself. The energy goes to the deepest levels of the person's being, where illnesses have their origin.  It works wherever the recipient needs it most, releasing blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins and working to create a state of balance.  It reinforces the recipient's ability to take responsibility for their life, and helps them to make the necessary changes in attitude and lifestyle to promote a happier and healthier life. To accept and work with Reiki is to honour yourself and others. It is a beautiful gift, but most of all it is a gift we can all share! The process of doing Reiki treatment is thought of as 'laying on of hands' or 'spiritual healing' and is considered to be a metaphysical phenomenon.  Reiki also has elements based on the traditions of Asian medicine and martial arts which have given rise to acupuncture, chi gong, tai chi and similar practices. Reiki is related to some practices of Chinese Medicine, Chi Gong and other Holistic medicine and modes.  Reiki is somewhat of a fusion of spiritual healing and some traditional Asian medical, spiritual and health practices.  The hand placements correspond to some of those points use in Acupuncture and other practices but no needles, pressure or massage is used. Reiki flows through the practitioner but is not generated by the practitioner, and does not deplete the practitioner's own energy supply. Advanced practitioners can do treatments without physical contact. With Reiki First Degree you have a valuable tool to use for self-healing and for helping others, animals, objects and so on, for the rest of your life.  this is a tremendous gift and one which you will enjoy.  Many people fine that Reiki First Degree is sufficient for what they want to do but other want to extend their healing abilities and take their next step to Second Degree Reiki. Creative Ways to use Reiki Sending Reiki through the Aura: There are times when it is not possible to treat someone by laying your hands on them, but Reiki can flow through the aura, so you don't have to be right beside the person who needs help.  For example, if you are at the scene of an accident, it might be inappropriate for you to offer your help directly, but you can intend that Reiki should flow to the injured person for their greatest and highest good.  Even if they have not asked for healing, their Higher Selves will know what is needed, and will draw Reiki into them to help with shock and pain.  Treating Animals: Most types of animals respond very well to Reiki, and with many you can follow a similar format of hand positions to those on humans with good effect.  Clearly though, this depends upon the size and temprament of the animal .  There are several methods which can be used. Using Reiki for Plants and Seeds: Seeds and plants respond extremely well to Reiki. Using Reiki with Food and Drink: One way in which Reiki can help you to achieve a healthier life is to give Reiki to everything you eat and drink.  When you give Reiki to food and drink it raises its vibration so that the energy you take in is heightened. Using Reiki on Inanimate Objects: It is possible to use Reiki  on virtually everything.  You may think it is incredible, but Reiki can work very well on inanimate objects such as cars, computers, washing machines and vacuum cleaners.  Everything in the Universe is energy, and all manufactured objects started out as natural materials.  Once energy has been created, it cannot be destroyed, only transformed into some other state.  You just have to place your hands on the machine that is not working, intend that Reiki should flow into it, and keep your hands there for a while.  Do this with good intentions - not out of anger (that the machine has let you down) as thoughts are energy too. Using Reiki on Personal Problems: You can use Reiki on more complex but less tangible things, such as situations or difficulties in your personal life, or even wider issues such as world peace. Sending Reiki Healing Although to carry out distant healing effectively with Reiki it is more efficient to use the symbols and techniques taught at Second Degree level, it is possible to send some healing at First Degree level, although it will not be  strong.  As an example, think of distant healing at Second Degree level as being like a laser beam, where there is no diminution of strength regardless of distance, whereas at First Degree it is more like a normal torch beam which spreads out and loses light the further it goes. If you want to send healing and love to people, just use a photograph or write their names on a piece of paper and hold the paper or photo in your hands intending Reiki should go to them for their greatest and highest good. Remember though, that you cannot force healing onto anyone, so if the person's Higher Self knows that it would be inappropriate for some reason, the healing will not be received and will just dissipate. Wishing you heaven in your heart, starlight in your soul and miracles in your life.
